EU project to hold regional training on wastewater reuse

(ANSAmed) - BRUSSELS, FEBRUARY 17 - The EU-funded SWIM-Sustain Water MED project will hold a regional training course on wastewater reuse with a focus on quality control and environmental impacts in Djerba, Tunisia on 12-16 May 2014.

According to the Enpi website (www.enpi-info.eu) the course aims to provide a theoretical and practical overview of wastewater quality control, sampling and the impact of the reuse of treated wastewater on soil characteristics, agricultural crops, public health, and groundwater pollution. This training will be organized in close collaboration with the project's local partners, the National Sanitation Office (ONAS), the Ministry of Agriculture, the Ministry of Public Health, the Ministry of Environment and the National Agency for Environmental Protection. It is aimed at representatives from government and private sector as well as civil society and academia in partner countries. Participants are expected to have good knowledge in water resources, wastewater or related engineering and environmental backgrounds. Sustainable Water Integrated Management (SWIM) is a Regional Technical Assistance Programme launched by the European Commission, with a total budget of approximately 22 million euros, to contribute to the extensive dissemination and effective implementation of sustainable water management policies and practices in the Southern Mediterranean Region.
